More information
The Calendar reservation system
has been upgraded to the cloud-based Calcium Calendar,
thanks to Dr. Bhuvanesh's efforts. The new system is managed
by Brown Bear Software (www.brownbearsw.com). Brown Bear is
a privately-owned, independent software firm located in
Anchorage, Alaska, which has been producing, selling, and
supporting cloud-based software solutions since 1994. Brown
Bear Software is registered and approved by the State of
Texas and Texas A&M University for use by departments,
laboratories, and individuals at Texas A&M University. The
software is secured with user/password protection (only
registered users can view, modify, and edit the calendar)
and is backed up by both Black Bear and the X-ray Facility.
The X-ray Facility underwent this
change in the calendar to comply with the IT regulations set
forth by both the State of Texas and Texas A&M University.
After evaluating the expenses
associated with maintaining a new server and licensing the
software, it was determined that utilizing an online
cloud-based system would be more cost-effective.
Since the early 2000s, we have
been using the local server-based Brown Bear Calcium
calendar, and thus, the decision to transition to the Brown
Bear cloud service was considered the most effective
approach for ensuring compliance and enhancing usability.
All information technology rules
and regulations of Texas A&M University (29.01.03.M0.02
Information Resources - Acceptable Use, University Rule 22)
are applicable to all cloud-based software registered with
the State of Texas. The X-ray facility will manage the
calendar accounts; therefore, we kindly ask that you handle
the cloud-based account with the same level of care as you
would an official Texas A&M University account.
Thank you for your support.
